I was taught to always be honest, but honesty no one wanted to hear-
so I began speaking what was pleasing to the ears.
As for looks, I could dress however I like,
but others only liked me when I wore my disguise.
When I spoke I made it sound like notes,
even though it would put strain upon my throat.
Every step made and every action took
I did with the consideration of who was going to look.
Once I grew up I realized that I wasn’t anything new,
I wasn’t growing up to be me,
I was becoming another “you.”
